Restaurante El Pantano, Lake Viñuela: very nice indeed!

After the rudeness we encountered at Hotel Viñuela, El Pantano was a welcome change! The waiters are very kind and dogs are allowed, albeit only on the balcony. The view of the wonderfully blue lake is much better here than at Hotel Viñuela as well!

Hotel La Viñuela: RUDE!

We almost ate at Hotel La Viñuela, but were repelled by the gross rudeness of the waiter. We had been told by the bored girl at the reception that dogs weren´t allowed in the hotel or the restaurant, but that we could eat on the terraza. Great, because it was a lovely day.

Thai Restaurant Siam in Torre del Mar: worth the wait

First impressions:
Not much of an effort has gone into giving Siam any kind of Thai feel.
The only waiter looks like he should have retired a long time ago. Actually, he made us feel so bad that we started clearing tables for him, so maybe he´s got the right idea. Also, he´s quite deaf and he [...]

Bar Restaurant El Trapiche

To be perfectly frank, Bar El Trapiche, next to its bigger brother El Cruce on the road from Velez-Malaga to Comares, looks like a bit of a dive. We wandered in because we were staying in La Escuela Crujía, a lovely b&b around the corner, and we were hungry. Also we were encumbered with two [...]

Chez Spice near Velez-Malaga: a bit of a disappointment

I´ve been living in Spain for well over a year now and the one of the things that I really miss from back home is variety in food. Spaniards appear to like their food the way their mums made it and that´s just that. Especially in La Alpujarra. Pizza is ok, and an occasional Chinese [...]

Hostal Restaurant Las Acacias Malaga

If you’re looking for a place to put you’re feet up and be given a warm welcome, you might want to stay at Las Acacias. It’s near the beach in Malaga’s Pedergalejo area and it’s quite cheap. 59 euros buys you a double, 90 even gets you a suite! Las Acacias is run by a [...]

Restaurant Sultan – Granada

When in Granada, eat Moorish!
So after a long day of sight seeing we ended up at Sultan in calle Elvira.
It looks a bit run down, and in this off, off season there weren’t very many people there, but the welcome was hearty. The tables look like they’re intended for Snowwhite’s dwarves, and I had a [...]

Restaurant La Almazara Orgiva

In the middle of Orgiva is a garden filled with orange trees. When the weather’s fine you can sit under a tree and enjoy a beer (beerfans: they serve Erdinger Weissbier!) and some of the finest pizza in La Alpujarra.
Of late, the weather gods have not been kind to me in La Alpujarra: today [...]

Meson Joaquín – Trevelez

Trevelez is renowned for at least two things: it’s the highest village in Spain and it has ham. Tons and tons of ham.
When you walk into Meson Joaquín the ham-aspect is obvious: the place is packed, wall to wall, with cured hams. And from the outside you can see there’s at least another floor of [...]

Malaga: the good, the bad and the ugly

Even us mountain folk like to get dolled up and go somewhere nice every now and again and one of our favorite spots is Malaga. On the sea front, with few tourists crowding the small chiringuitos (bbq fish places) on the beach, a small but lovely inner city,  the remains of a Moorish castle to [...]
