Unemployment up a whopping 47% in Spain

Great Depression

Great Depression

200.000 Spaniards lost their jobs this January. That makes a total of 3.33 million Spaniards without a job. The credit crunch and the end of the housing bubble is causing the crisis to hit Spain harder than other countries so far.

Untill recently, the only person I knew who’d been hit by the Crisis was my hairdresser, who couldn’t afford to go on a holiday. Shops closing, foreigners (mostly Brits) moving back home. I wonder how far this thing will go? Is this the worst of it or are we heading towards total chaos? Another Great Depression? Should I start stocking up on canned tuna and preparing bathtub gin? Do I get to wear a hat?
