My First Puppy
We had a Plan: we were going to wait for the right time and then go to the pound and get one of those unloved, abandoned dogs and drive off into the sunset. Apparently, due to the crisis, more and more dogs are being abandoned all over Spain, and probably the entire world, so we’d be doing a good thing for some poor mutt.
That was, until I stopped in at our local gas station and fell head over heels in love with a puppy. Completely impractical, unplanned and soooo cute!! I always liked its mother, a tiny whispy thing that always runs up for a cuddle, and now this very ’boutique’ dog had a litter of no fewer than six puppies! Ouch. But they are very, very cute. And the cutest one, of course, is mine! We called her Suerte (which means Luck) and I can pick her up next week.
So now I have to scour La Alpujarra to find a vet , and a book on raising dogs, a traveling case, get this dog a passport, and I guess from now on we’ll be staying only in hotels that accepts mascotas (pets).
I am a bit freaked out (I never had a dog of my own, let alone a puppy!) but also very excited.
