Jean Paul Belmondo: Un homme et son Chien
I’m in a dog sized universe so a film called A man and his dog sounded right up my alley.
One time French heartthrob Jean Paul Belmondo plays an older guy, down on his luck, who has nothing going for him apart from his dog.
Bebel had a stroke in 2001, leaving him paralyzed on his right side. A lot of exercize and therapy have given him back his speech and some movement, but he still needs his crutch. He only agreed to do this film if they promised to show him exactly how he is:”It’s me,” he said in an interview with IHT, “without any special effects.”
Not everybody was thrilled by Belmondo’s return, many people preferring to remember him as the suave, loveable gangster he usually played in his movies. The movie’s received mixed reviews, but I think it’s bloody brave to show the world what you really are, especially if you’ve been adored like Belmondo. The movie wasn’t Bebel’s only comeback: according to Paris Match he also found a new love of his life, 33-year old Italian beauty Barbara Gandolfini.
