Meson Joaquín – Trevelez
Trevelez is renowned for at least two things: it’s the highest village in Spain and it has ham. Tons and tons of ham.
When you walk into Meson Joaquín the ham-aspect is obvious: the place is packed, wall to wall, with cured hams. And from the outside you can see there’s at least another floor of cured meat. Whole herds of them.
Now I love a bit of ham myself, but being surrounded by so much dead flesh was a tad daunting and as the tv was blaring away for no one as well, we were happy to sit outside.
>>>Restaurante El Pantano, Lake Viñuela: very nice indeed!
>>>La cueva de la mora luna – Mecina, La Taha
>>>Cafe Da Fe in Ferreirola: cute!
The food’s lovely, the service is friendly and the lamb was nice and tender.
Do you ever feel like having dinner somewhere is a bit of a competition? Maybe it’s just me, but I always feel a bit of a failure when I have, once again, ordered less well than my husband. Remember the good old days (in books anyway) when a man would simply order for his date? I’d love that. However, I have to make my own decisions, foodwise, and I’m just not as good a picker as my lovely hubby is.
So he picked mouthwatering croquetas de jamon, followed by cordero (lamb). I chose an uneventful sopa de ajo and rather bare queso de cabra. But then I picked the very memorable homemade cheesecake! So in the end we were even. Personally, my best meals always end in a draw.
So save some room for dessert!
