Garden Gnomes

Garden gnomes on my balcony

It’s kinda crazy, the stuff you miss once you’re gone. There are the obvious candidates: my mum, the friend I have endless lunches with, the friend I have ‘kopstootjes’ with (a shot of jenever followed by downing a glass of beer. It’s pretty revolting and it’ll get you drunk as a skunk), my favourite Indian restaurant, my favourite beer. All the shoes I left behind.

And, apparently, my garden gnomes. I saw a picture of them today and it brought tears to my eyes. Bastard gnomes. I can just picture them standing outside on my balcony, unperturbed by my disappearance, while in Amsterdam the fall leaves start, well, falling.

I think garden Gnomes are kinda cool, ever since I read about the French garden gnome liberation front an organization that takes (well, basically steals) gnomes from gardens and releases them in the woods.

I got my gnomes years ago when I bought a caravan in the country side. It was filled with ugly crap, china poodles, lace curtains, gaudy wall paper. And six garden gnomes. I loved that caravan.

Anyway, in the end I sold the caravan because I upgraded to an actual house and all I took were those six gnomes. They’re on my balcony now, but as soon as I get a house in Spain, I wil set them free again.
