Casa Los Olivillos Ferreirola
Table of contents for Places to stay
Yay, we have arrived at the spot that we’ll be calling home for the next two months. And it is even lovelier than we expected from the website. We found it through Owners Direct, not the best site on the web, it has its (major) flaws, but it’s still a lot more user friendly than most other sites which are usually unintelligible and make it very hard to search for specifics, such as ‘is there wifi?’. A clickable map would be so usefull!Still, after weeks of searching I found this lovely little place that lived up to (almost) all my specs: beautiful location, within walking distance from a village with a cafe, woodburning stove and the all important internet connection. Missing: we stayed at a different house earlier this year for three months and it had sattelite tv. And a bath. I’m not much for showering, I like soaking in bath tubs for hours every day and reading a book.
You know how they say you spent x amount of time brushing your teeth/standing in queues/filling out forms? Apparently we spend two weeks of our lives waiting for traffic lights. I probably spent 10 % of my life in a bath tub. Much better than waiting for a red light, I should think! I hope one day to be the proud owner of an extremely comfy, preferably green, claw foot bathtub.
However, with no tv and no bath tub I’ll have masses of time on my hand to do all kinds of wonderful things, knit those socks, read War & Peace, but still. I just know that in a week or so I’ll be lusting after a nice soak.
So far I’ve already read half a book on Spain: Spain behind the scenes, a very good book by Steven Adolf on what makes Spaniards tick. Apparently the Spaniards rank first in Europe when it comes to traffic casualties, building houses, noise and drug smuggling. War & Peace is also coming along nicely (here be spoilers: Prince Andrej and Natalia just BROKE UP????)(I hope Pierre ends up with Natalia actually, he’s a decent guy)(or maybe Princess Mary? She should get a nice husband. I hope Tolstoy agrees with me ![]()
We share a birthday, Tolstoy and I, and I think that might help.

holidaylettings.co.uk is another good website if you’re looking for rental accommodation. And there are interactive maps!

Thanks Rachael,
I like that clickable map and they have good search criteria!
Alas, when I looked for “internet” in the Alpujarras there was only one hit, but still, a vast improvement on owners direct!
