Spanish autoclub?

We were on a roll. Finally we’d said goodbye to everyone we knew, grandparents, parents, friends, our favourite Indian restaurant.
We also said goodbye to our car, because we switched cars with my sister-in-law.
No problem, it was a newer car, a Peugeot, and my car (a much loved Suzuki Swift, affectionately called Swifty or The Swifster) was easier for her to get around in AMsterdam, everybody happy. Only one hour into our trip the blasted Peugeot just died. Completely. The battery’s dead, the gearbox is fried and we spent 3 hours by the side of the highway waiting for someone to come and save us.
After a day the car was fixed, sort of, but the gearbox still doesn’t shift to reverse, the breaks need fixing there’s no airco and I want to throttle this heap of crappy French mechanics. The French should stick to what they know, i.e. smelly cheeses and being rude in restaurants, and leave mechanics to people who know their stuff.
My autoclub, of course, didn’t cover it. The snooty girl on the line wasn’t even prepared to help me if I promised to pay myself! Never join ANWB! They are TERRIBLE! For five years I’ve been paying my membership and I’v never called them once. The first time I do, not only does it turn out I am not insured, I don’t even get a polite response or any help!!!! So I cancelled my subscription right away.
So since I’m shopping for a new autoclub, this might be a good time to start looking into Spanish autoclubs.
They appear to have 2 popular ones in Spain: Race weighs in at 118 euro per year. Which I think is kinda expensive. A year of Club Mapfre comes to 90 euros a year, if you get car insurance with Mapfre as well then it’s only 30 euros a year so that might be interesting.
In the end, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating, so you won’t really know whether your autoclub is any good until you’re actually stuck next to a highway. My advice? Go cheap, I know I will!
